Rancho Mirage may tighten rental restrictions

Today Rancho Mirage will become the next Coachella Valley city to grapple with the issues presented by short-term vacation rentals.

If the City Council OKs a proposed ordinance today, the city will launch a new process for owners to register homes rented out for 28 days or less. Those who don’t could face a $5,000 fine.

The fines also apply to violations of rules already in place for operating the homes, including limits on the number of guests and lack of response if a disturbance is reported.
